Urban Strategies giving initiatives are expressions of one of our core values – intentional compassion. While crises compel us to respond compassionately with immediate relief, we intentionally work in ways that align with our goal of catalyzing long-term, sustainable development that will generate community transformation.
Join us in creating collective impact by giving to one of the initiatives below. We partner with our fidicuary agent, the National Alliance of Hispanic Families (NAHF), to create an avenue for you to be involved in meaningful community work.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2020, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Puerto Rico, following a 5.8 magnitude earthquake the day before and a series of tremors in the past two weeks. Power outages and damage have been reported near the island's southern coast, including in the city of Ponce, where one of the Urban Strategies' Family and Child Academy sites is located. Strong temblors followed the quake and damage is still being reported, but it is clear that emergency relief assistance is needed.
Raquel Lopez Olivar, a partner and resident in Puerto Rico said, “The earthquake may have been strong, but we are strong too!” Join us in standing strong with Puerto Rico by making a donation to provide for basic needs, including food and water.
Future at Home is a fellowship program designed to cultivated leaders in Central America by connecting impact-minded investors with high-potential scholars. We believe transformational change in Central America begins with igniting the gifts and strengths of high-potential youth. Providing a student scholarship mobilizes transformational development and addresses systemic issues in the region. Your investment will sponsor the college education of high-performing students who have a desire to be educated, equipped, and launched into the job market in their own countries, instead of migrating to other countries like the United States.
We are working with local churches along the Texas-Mexico border to address the immediate crisis. Our partner congregations are overwhelmed, exhausted and insufficiently resourced to respond to the growing need in their communities. We have organized a relief distribution for churches in the Rio Grande Valley who are serving as respite centers, and more support for churches on the frontline is needed. For immediate, short-term relief on our Southern Border, donations are the best way to support the work to provide immediate support. Donations will assist with the following needs:
- Refugio Housing
- Relief Products
- Facility Supports
- First Responder Care
- Individual Assistance
In Central America, we are building the capacity of local congregations to rebuild their neighborhoods so families can flourish and thrive in-place. This work includes workshops and one-on-one coaching, peer learning through a network of 600 churches, workforce development for youth, and the Future at Home fellowship program that provides scholarships to high potential students.
Your donation will be processed by National Alliance for Hispanic Families, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
